Schools, madrasahs to remain shut till Thursday

The Ministry of Education will not appeal against the High Court order to keep all primary and secondary schools and madrasahs shut till Thursday (May 2) amid the ongoing heat wave. 

Public Relations Officer of the Ministry Mohammad Abul Khair confirmed the matter on Tuesday. 

The HC bench of Justice K. M. Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat gave the suo moto order on Monday (April 29.)

However, those schools that have air conditioning (AC) systems, O level, A level exams, colleges, and universities will remain out of the purview of the order, said Supreme Court lawyer Manir Uddin.

Manir Uddin drew the attention of the HC to the newspaper reports about deaths and sickness of people in different places of the country during the ongoing heatwave.

He also informed the HC that students of schools and madrasahs are in risk amid the heatwave.

Taking the reports into cognizance, the HC passed the suo moto order.
