Unemployment among men goes up

The Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has released data showing a 2 percent increase in the number of unemployed men in the first quarter of 2024, reaching 17.4 lakh, up from 17.10 lakh a year ago. 

However, the number of unemployed women declined by 3 percent to 8.5 lakh at the end of March 2024, resulting in a 2 percent reduction in the total number of unemployed people. 

The total workforce in Q1 2024 was 7.37 crore, slightly higher than the previous year, primarily due to an increase in the male labor force. 

Out of the total workforce, 7.11 crore were employed, indicating a marginal increase from the previous year. 

Employment among men increased during Q1 2024, while employment among women decreased.
