457 platoons of BGB deployed for 2nd phase UP polls

The government has deployed a total of 457 platoons of the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to maintain law and order ahead of the second phase of Upazila Parishad Elections.

In the second phase, elections to 160 upazila parishads are scheduled to be held on May 21.

According to a press release, the paramilitary force will work as a mobile and striking force to maintain peace and order in the election areas from May 19 to May 23 under the 'In Aid to the Civil Power' to support the local civil administration during the elections.

In the first phase, the upazila parishad elections to 150 upazilas across the country were held on 8 May.
