Low pressure area may form over Bay of Bengal

A low-pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal by Wednesday or Thursday. It is likely to intensify into a depression afterwards.

A K M Nazmul Haque, a meteorologist of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), confirmed the matter to the Daily Samakal. 

"It cannot be said yet whether the depression will lead to a cyclone," he added. 

Meteorologist Kazi Zebunnesa said the trajectory of the low-pressure area can be discerned only after it is formed around Wednesday afternoon. 

Meanwhile, the regular BMD weather bulletin said Rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty or squally wind are likely to occur at many places in three divisions (Rangpur, Rajshahi and Mymensingh) and at one or two places in the other five divisions with hails at isolated places on Tuesday. 

The country's maximum temperature on Monday was recorded at 36.0 degrees Celsius at Mongla and the minimum temperature on Tuesday was 22.3 degrees at Dinajpur.

The maximum rainfall for the last 24 hours till 6am Tuesday was recorded at 121 millimeters (mm) at Patuakhali.
