DB chief Harun in Kolkata to probe MP Azim's murder

A three-member team of the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) headed by the DB chief chief Mohammad Harun Or Rashid has reached Kolkata to look into the murder of Jhenaidah-4 lawmaker Anwarul Azim Anar.

The team, also consisting of Abdul Ahad and Shahedur Rahman, reached Kolkata's Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport at around 11:30am on Sunday. 

While speaking to journalists outside the airport, the DB chief said, "Our job is to find out where the crime started and and where it ended. According to criminal procedure, the investigating team has to visit both places."

Expressing hope about finding the body of the murdered MP, "Harun said West Bengal's law enforcers, CID have progressed a lot. We hope they will find out all the information about this murder."

The team will go to the New Town's Westin Hotel first. From there, the chief will decide on the next course of action. However, there is a possibility that they will visit locations in Kolkata such as Sanjiva Garden and Bhangor. 

Anwarul Azim Anar allegedly went to Kolkata for medical treatment on May 12. His family informed police when they lost contact with him on May 14. A search operation was launched to trace the three-time Awami League MP.

On Wednesday, India's police said he was murdered in a flat in Sanjiva Garden of the New Town area in Kolkata. 

Kolkata CID later arrested a Bangladeshi man named Siam, who was occupying the flat in Sanjiva Garden on 13 May. Investigators also arrested a cab driver named Juber and a butcher named Jihad. The rental car which was used to carry away the body parts was seized on Thursday morning.
