Child injured during Cyclone Remal dies in ICU

A child who was injured during Cyclone Remal died in the ICU of Dhaka's National Institute of Neurosciences & Hospital (NINS) on Wednesday. 

The deceased was identified as Suraiya Ahmed, daughter of Jalal Uddin Ahmed. 

On Monday (27 May) Suraiya was asleep with her family in their house in Dakkhinkhan Kazibari Road. At around 6:30am, an under-construction wall from a neighbouring building collapsed and fell on the roof of their house, injuring Suraiya and her father. 

The two injured were first rushed to Uttara KC Hospital. Later, Suraiya was transferred to the NINS and her father to Dhaka Dental College Hospital.

Dr Md Sakhawat Hossain, an assistant professor at the NINS, said Suraiya's brain had stopped working and that her blood pressure was unstable. She breathed her last on Wednesday morning. 

According to Suraiya's uncle Saifuddin Ahmed, the neighbouring building was being constructed without any security measures, which caused this tragedy. Suraiya's family filed a case with the Dakkhinkhan Police Station.
