Laptops to be cheaper

Finance Minister AH Mahmood Ali has proposed to reduce total tax incidence from 31 percent to 20.50 percent for laptop import.

The move was taken to make laptop computers and similar products available to the tech savvy workforces.

“I propose to increase the CD from 5 percent to 10 percent and recommend waiving the 15 percent VAT applicable at import stage. This will reduce the total tax incidence from 31 percent to 20.50 percent,” said Ali in his budget speech in the Jatiya  Sangsad. 

Ali added that these measures will also help curb the fake/refurbished laptops mushrooming in the market.
