One cop shoots another dead, injures pedestrian

In an unusual turn of events, a constable of police fired at random and killed a fellow constable at the capital's Gulshan early on Saturday. A pedestrian was also shot in the incident. 

The deceased constable was identified as Monirul, while the constable who fired at him was identified as Kauser Ahmed. They were both stationed at the police box outside the Palestine Embassy in Dhaka. 

Confirming the matter, Gulshan Police Station Officer in Charge Mazharul Islam told the Daily Samakal that one police member shot another in front of the Palestine Embassy at around midnight. A pedestrian was also shot in the incident, he was taken to a nearby hospital. 

IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun visited the spot at around 2am. He said, Constable Kauser Ahmed fired like a madman. We have recovered some shells and 20 rounds of bullets from the spot. The police member who fired was disarmed and taken to Gulshan Police Station. A driver working at the Japanese Embassy was injured in the incident. He was sent to United Hospital. We have started an investigation. 

After the incident, security in Gulshan was strengthened. A SWAT team was also deployed.
