13km long traffic congestion on Dhaka-Tangail Highway

A 13-kilometre-long traffic congestion has formed on the Dhaka-Tangail Highway, causing immense suffering to homebound passengers ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.

The traffic congestion spanning from the east side of the Bangabandhu Bridge to Tangail's Elenga formed as early as Saturday (15 June) morning. 

Due to the high pressure of vehicles, the bridge authority paused toll collection for a long time from Friday midnight, which caused a long tailback. 

According to police and bridge authority, a number of vehicles broke down on the bridge. Removing the vehicles took some time, which caused the traffic congestion. 

Elenga Highway Police outpost in-charge Mir Md Sazedur Rahman told the Daily Samakal that vehicles were moving very slowly on the highway. However, the police are working to solve the traffic congestion.
