Sonali Bank removes Matiur from director post

President of the VAT Appellate Tribunal Dr Md Matiur Rahman was removed from the post of director of Sonali Bank Limited. 

A Board of Directors meeting is scheduled for Sunday, which will not include Matiur Rahman. Member of the board Ziaul Hasan Siddique told journalists that Matiur will not attend the board meetings ever again.

Matiur Rahman could not be contacted for comments. 

Recently, it was found that Matiur Rahman's son bought a goat for Tk 15 lakh for Eid-ul-Azha. It was also found that he spent a total of Tk 70 lakh to buy cows. Afterwards, Matiur Rahman and his family's lavish lifestyle came under the media's scrutiny. 

In order to preserve the image of Sonali Bank, Matiur Rahman may be removed from his post as a director, sources said. The process is said to start as soon as Sunday.
