ACC starts probe into alleged graft of NBR official Matiur

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has begun a probe into graft allegations against National Board of Revenue (NBR) official Matiur Rahman.

A three-member committee has been formed by the Commission on Sunday to conduct investigation into the alleged amassing of illegal wealth by Matiur Rahman.

ACC deputy director Md Anwar Hossain (team leader), its assistant director Mahmudul Hasan and deputy assistant director Sabikun Nahar were included in the probe body.

On June 4 last the national anti-graft watchdog decided to launch a probe against NBR member Matiur Rahman for allegedly amassing illegal wealth and siphoning off money, said ACC Secretary Khorsheda Yasmin

She was talking to reporters at the ACC Headquarters.

Following the recent controversy over his illegal wealth, Matiur, who was the president of the NBR’s Customs, Excise and VAT Appellate Tribunal, has been transferred to the Internal Resources Division (IRD) of the Finance Ministry.

The graft of Matiur came into spotlight after a post of a sacrificial goat on social media by his son Mushfiqur Rahman Ifat. In the post, Ifat claimed that they boat the goat at Taka 12 lakh, creating uproar on the social platform. The alleged illegal income of the NBR official surfaced.
