5 die of electrocution in Bogura Ratha Yatra

Five people were killed and at least 30 injured due to electrocution in Palpara of Seuzgari area of Bogura Sadar on Sunday afternoon.

Some of the injured are in critical condition.

Bogura Sadar police station officer-in-charge Saihan Waliullah confirmed the casualties.

Three of the five victims have been identified as Atashi Rani, 40, of Kuril area of Bogura Sadar, Naresh Mahanta, 50, of Adamdighi, Ranjit Mahanta, 40, of Shajahanpur.

Locals said, “The Ratha Yatra left from Seuzgari ISKCON Temple at 5 pm. On the way, when the carriage reached the Amtala Junction area, the dome of the chariot came in contact with the high voltage electric wires above the road. As the dome of the chariot was made of steel, the wires caught fire, leaving at least 35 people injured.”

Later five people died after being taken to Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital.
