'Bangla Blockade' to resume Monday

Demonstrating students will commence the 'Bangla Blockade' programme on Monday to protest the recent High Court verdict reinstating the quota system. 

Students first observed the 'Bangla Blockade' programme on Sunday, when they took positions at several prominent points in the capital and voiced their protests. The programme caused severe traffic congestion in these areas. 

Jahangirnagar University students blocked the Dhaka-Aricha Highway for about 4 hours on Sunday afternoon, while Barishal University students blocked the Barishal-Patuakhali Highway, Islami University students blocked the Kushtia-Jhenaidah Highway, Shahjalal University of Science & Technology students blocked the Sylhet-Sunamgaj highway, and students in Mymensingh blocked the railroad. 

The protesting students have decided to press for a one-point demand, which is to pass a law in the parliament abolishing the quota system in all grades and to provide a minimum quota for the underdeveloped populace.
