Students gather to block roads in the capital

To press home the one-point demand to reform the existing quota system, protesting students blocked various roads in the capital on Wednesday. 

Students of various institutions including the University of Dhaka, Eden College, and Dhaka College started to gather at important points of the city early in the morning. They blocked Shikkha Chattar, Science Lab, and Mayor Hanif Flyover near Dhaka Medical College and Hospital at around 9:45am. 

Students of the Titumir College blocked the road at Mohakhali at around 11am. 

On June 5, the High Court termed illegal a 2018 government circular abolishing the quota system. The decision to reinstate the quota system was also upheld by the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on July 4. 

The decision triggered anti-quota protests at universities across the country. On Sunday (7 July), protesting students observed a 'Bangla Blockade' to press home their one-point demand. 

Meanwhile, The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered a 4-week status quo on the High Court order that reinstated the quota system.
