Students to begin Bangla Blockade at 3pm on Thursday

Anti-quota protesters will continue their Bangla Blockade programme at 3pm on Thursday.

DU student Asif Mahmud, one of the organizers of the anti-discrimination student movement, announced the programme in Shahbagh on Wednesday evening.

Earlier in the day, Hasnat Abdullah, another coordinator of the movement, said quota protesting students would continue their movement until the government forms a commission to reform the quota system.

He was talking to journalists in the capital’s Shahbagh around Wednesday noon.

Thousands of students from universities and colleges blocked major intersections in the divisional cities blocked highways, railways across the country, as a part of their programme from 10:00am to 7:00pm.

Students and job seekers have been protesting the reinstatement of the quota system in government jobs for the last seven days.

They are demanding reinstatement of a 2018 circular that abolished the quota system in government jobs.

The quota protesters asserted that the executive division of the state must form a commission in this regard.

They also vowed that they will continue their movement until there is a permanent solution to the quota system.

On Wednesday, Appellate Division made order of status quo on the High Court's verdict for four weeks.

On June 4, the Supreme Court upheld a High Court verdict that declared the government circular illegal.
