Health minister aspires to reduce caesarean births

Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Samanta Lal Sen has expressed the wish to reduce caesarean sections among pregnant women across the country. 

The minister asked rural health workers to make pregnant women aware of the importance of regular check-ups. 

"We want to reduce the number of caesarean sections," he said while addressing an event as the chief guest. The event was organised to observe World Population Day 2024 at the Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Convention Hall on Thursday. 

The minister also said, "I got to Upazila Health Complexes and check the ANC corner first. I check how many checkups the pregnant women are getting, which places are carrying out institutional deliveries, which places are carrying out more c-sections."

He added, "Many places claim that the previous delivery was through caesarean section, so the next one will also be caesarean. That cannot be an answer. We have to find the answer to why there was a caesarean section. If we find the answer and work on the root cause, then we can surely reduce caesarean sections."
