Legal action to be taken if quota protesters continue to block roads: DMP

Police will take legal action if quota protesters continued to block the roads, said DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Ops) KH Mahid Uddin.

Citing that the Supreme Court on Wednesday issued a status quo on the High Court order that reinstated quotas in government jobs, he said there is no logic in the movement now.

He urged the students not to block roads, showing respect to law and SC.

Mahid Uddin said people, especially patients and the elderly, suffered immensely as students continued their nationwide “Bangla Blockade.

“Students were staging protests on the roads across the country for last 10 days and police handled the issue professionally. But if they disregard our call, it will be offence as per the law and constitution,” he said.

Mahid Uddin was briefing reporters at the DMP media centre on Thursday.

Meanwhile, hundreds of students gathered in front of the Central Library of Dhaka University.

Now, they are set to move to Shahbagh to resume Bangla Blockade, announced Wednesday night.
