'Prottoy' to be effective from July 2025: Quader

The universal pension scheme ‘Prottoy’ will come into effective from July 1 next year, said Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader.

He made the announcement after a meeting with the delegation of university teachers who are currently on work abstention demanding the cancellation of Prottoy programme.

Quader said confusion was prevailing regarding the implementation of Prottoy scheme. It was confusion that the scheme would be effective from this year. However, the prime minister told the House that all programmes would take effect in the next year.

Quader was talking to reporters after the two-hour long meeting at the Awami League president's Dhanmondi office in the capital on Saturday.

He said that they will place their written demands to the prime minister and the next decisions will come after discussion. 

The AL leader hoped the crisis situation will come into end soon.

“We have urged the delegation to stop their work abstention. They ensured us that they will take the decision after discussion with the leaders of the federation," he said.

The 10-member delegation of teachers, including the Federation of Bangladesh University Teachers' Association's Secretary General Prof Nizamul Haque Bhuiyan, and Prof Zeenat Huda, general secretary of Dhaka University Teachers' Association, joined the meeting.

PM's advisor on education and culture Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, state minister for education Begum Shamsun Naher,; AL joint general secretaries Mahbubul Alam Hanif and AFM Bahauddin Nasim; and AL office secretary and special assistant to PM Biplab Barua accompanied Quader.
