Anti-quota protesters sued over vandalism, assault

A case has been filed against anti-quota protesters on charges of vandalising police vehicles, assaulting police officers, and attacking policemen during the ongoing quota reform movement.

Khalilur Rahman, a driver from the transport section of Rajarbagh Police Lines, filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station on Friday. 

Many unidentified students were made accused in the case, said Shah Alam Md Akhtarul Islam, additional deputy commissioner (Ramna Zone) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.

According to the case statement, during a demonstration on July 11, the demonstrators illegally assembled near the Shahbagh intersection, sparking rioting and impeding official duties. The police officers on duty sustained general injuries as a result of their clashes with them when they burst over the police barricade at Shahbagh.

Subsequently, a general diary was filed with Shahbagh Police Station.
