Protesters give 24hr ultimatum to govt

Students demanding the quota system reform have said they will observe the government for the next 24 hours. If there are no significant steps taken by the government to reform the quota system, they will be forced to intensify their movement. 

Protesting students marched from the Public Library towards Bangabhaban on Sunday morning.  They faced police barricades at Shikkha Bhaban, the Secretariat and Gulistan's Zero Point. 

A 12-member delegation of the quota reform movement submitted a memorandum to President Mohammed Shahabuddin's Military Secretary Maj Gen Adil Chowdhury at around 2:24pm. They returned after 20 minutes and said they would observe the government's activities for the next 24 hours.

After submitting the memorandum, protesters once again gathered at Gulistan. 

Coordinator of the movement Nahid Islam said, "We have urged the Honourable President to call for an emergency session of the parliament. We want to see significant steps in the next 24 hours."
