BCL-quota protesters’ clash leaves 200 injured at DU

At least 200 people were injured in  sporadic clashes took place between ruling Awami League’s student wing Bangladesh Chhatra League and quota protesting general students on Dhaka University campus on Monday afternoon.

Our Dhaka University Correspondent reported that a chase and counter-chase between the protestors and BCL men started near Bijoy Ekattor Hall of Dhaka University around 3 pm and continued till 5 pm.

Asif Mahmud, coordinator of the protesting students, claimed that at least two hundred of their students were injured.

Almost all the injured persons are students of various educational institutions, including Dhaka University. 

Meanwhile, BCL leaders also claimed that some of BCL activists were also injured.

In front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital, General Secretary of Samajtantrik Chhatra Front Rafikuzzaman Farid told reporters that 200 students were injured in the attack of Chhatra League on students who were agitating for quota reform. The injured students were admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). Moreover, many injured are receiving treatment in other hospitals in the capital.

Most of the injured students were hit with bricks and sticks, he said.

Meanwhile, BCL leaders chased the injured students who were taken to DMCH. Around 5:30 in the afternoon, a group of BCL leaders and activists went in front of the emergency department of DMCH and threw them out.

After that, an incident of chasing and pelting bricks took place in front of DMCH.
