Protesters at JU attacked at midnight, more than 100 injured

Jahangirnagar University students involved in the quota reform movement were attacked late at night, injuring more than a hundred. 

According to the students, more than 150 leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) including outsiders launched the attack at around 1:50am on Tuesday. Students took shelter in the Vice Chancellor's residence to escape the attack. 

Students have also said most of the attackers wore helmets and were armed with sharp weapons. They also launched crude bombs and petrol bombs. They threw brickbats towards students when they escaped inside the VC's residence. 

Later, nearly 2,000 students came out of the halls and forced the attackers to retreat. However, police fired bullets and tear shells towards the students. Six students and three journalists were shot. 

Students have also alleged that they were attacked in the presence of the VC.
