Appellate Division to hear leave to appeal on quota Sunday

The chamber court has fixed next Sunday for the hearing of the leave to appeal against the High Court's verdict declaring the circular cancelling the quota system in government jobs illegal.

The full bench of the Appellate Division will hear the issue on that day.

Chamber Justice M. Enayetur Rahim of the Appellate Division gave this order on Thursday evening.

Attorney General AM Amin Uddin and Assistant Attorney General M Saiful Alam went to the judge's residence. Then the justice made the order.

Earlier, a leave to appeal has been filed against the High Court verdict that declared the cancelation of quotas in government jobs invalid.

Lawyer Shah Manjurul Haque filed the leave to appeal on behalf of two students on Thursday, seeking cancellation or reform of the verdict.

Earlier on July 10, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court ordered the parties to maintain the status quo, regarding quota system in government jobs.

The Appellate Division led by Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan gave the order.
