Rashed Khan Menon arrested

Police have arrested Workers Party President and former minister Rashed Khan Menon from Gulshan area in the capital on Thursday afternoon.

A short message sent by the media department of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed his arrest.

The Workers Party of Bangladesh is one of the partners of the Awami League-led 14-party alliance. 

During the Awami League period, he first served as the minister of Civil Aviation and Tourism and later as the minister of Social Welfare.

Menon has been made accused in a number of cases recently filed in relation to the deaths of protesters in clashes with law enforcement forces during the anti-discrimination student movement.
