Tipu Munshi remanded in Sumon murder case

A Dhaka court has put former commerce minister Tipu Munshi on four-day remand in a case filed over the murder of Sumon Shikder, 31, in the capital's Badda area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order on Thursday. 

Earlier in the day, police produced Munshi before the court and pleaded to place him on eight-day remand.

On early August 28, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Munshi from the capital's Gulshan area.

On July 19, Sumon Shikder was brutally gunned down in front of Fuji Tower in Badda during the recent anti-discrimination students’ movement.

His mother Masuma Begum filed the case against 179, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
