Ex-shipping minister Shahjahan Khan on 7-day remand

A Dhaka court has placed Awami League Presidium member and former Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan on a seven-day remand in a case filed over the death of a youth named Abdul Motalib in Dhaka's Dhanmondi. 

Police produced Shahjahan Khan before the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court on Friday with the plea of a 10-day remand. After the hearing, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mahbub Ahmed approved seven days of remand. 

The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Shajahan Khan in the wee hours of Friday from the capital's Dhanmondi area.

Abdul Motalib joined the student-people's procession in the capital's Dhanmandi area on August 4. He was shot in the chest and throat when police opened fire on the procession. Motalib's father Abdul Matin filed the case with Dhanmandi Police Station against 176, including ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina and Shajahan Khan.
