3 killed as bus hits truck in Bangabandhu Bridge area

Three people, including father and son, were killed and eight others injured as a bus hit a truck from rear in Bangabandhu Bridge area of Sirajganj early Saturday.

The deceased were identified as bus passenger Chandra Shekhar, 33, of Banbaria village in Kalia Haripur Union of Sadar Upazila, bus supervisor Rais Uddin, 62, of Elliot Bridge-Kalibari Road and his son, driver's assistant Alif Hasan Ripu, 33. 

The names of the injured were not initially known.

Bangabandhu Bridge West Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Quader Jilani said the driver of a Dhaka-bound passenger bus of Dhaka Express Paribahan from Sirajganj lost control over its steering and hit a truck from behind near pillar No. 13 of the bridge around 5:30 am, leaving three passengers of the bus dead on the spot and eight others injured.

On information, police rushed to the spot and recovered the bodies. The bodies were sent to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital for autopsy.

The injured were sent to Sirajganj general hospital for treatment.
