Tawfiq-e-Elahi on 4-day remand

A Dhaka court has put ousted prime minister Sheikh Hasina's energy adviser Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury on four-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of one Sumon Shikder in capital’s Badda area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ali Haider passed the order on Wednesday.

Earlier in the day, police produced Tawfiq before the court and pleaded to place him on 10-day remand in the case.

Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury was arrested by the Detective branch (DB) of police from capital’s Gulshan area on September 10.

On July 19, Sumon Shikder, 31, was killed in police firing beside Fuji Tower in Badda area during anti-discrimination student movement.

His mother Masuma Begum filed the case against 179, including Sheikh Hasina.
