Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant resumes production

The Barapukuria Thermal Power Plant in Dinajpur has resumed partial electricity production. The power plant's Unit No. 01 resumed production at around 11:32pm on Thursday. 

Abu Bakkar Siddique, the chief engineer of the power plant, confirmed the matter. He said, "The 125 MW capacity unit started generating around 70-75 MW electricity. The generated electricity is being supplied to the national grid since midnight. Around 800-900 tonnes of coal is required to keep the unit running." 

According to the chief engineer, the 125 MW capacity second unit of the power plant has been suspended since November 2020. The third unit became unusable on 9 September due to a broken hydraulic well pump. The first unit is very old. It was shut down on 6 September for repairs. 

"We have informed the contractor company. They asked for 15 days. The third unit can also resume operation as soon as a machine arrives from China," he added.
