Ali Riaz named as head of Constitution Reform Commission

The government has named eminent political scientist Prof. Ali Riaz as the head of the Constitution Reform Commission, replacing Supreme Court lawyer Shahdeen Malik.

In this regard, Cabinet Division has issued a circular on Wednesday.

Bangladeshi-American Ali Riaz is a professor at Illinois State University in the United States. He is a senior non-resident fellow at the Atlantic Council and the president of the American Institute of Bangladesh Studies.

On September 11, Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus in his address to the nation announced formation of six separate commissions. 

In his address, the Chief Adviser also mentioned the names of the head of the commissions. 

Initially, he announced Supreme Court Lawyer Shahdeen Malik as the head of Constitution Reform Commission.   

The aim of the commissions is bring reforms to the judiciary, election commission, administration, police, Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and the Constitution.
