3 killed, 20 injured in Khagrachari clashes

Three people were killed in a massive clash between ethnic minority groups and Bengalis in Dighinala on Thursday night following the killing of a youth in Khagrachari town on charges of theft.

At least 20 people from both sides were injured in the violence.

Several shops were set on fire, houses were vandalized during the clashes.

The three deceased are Dhan Ranjan Chakma,50, Rubel Tripura, and Juran Chakma, 20.

Khagrachari Modern Sadar Hospital residential doctor Ripal Bappi Chakma confirmed that the bodies of the deceased are in the hospital. He said that one of them was brought dead while two others died in the hospital during undergoing treatment.

Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Sahiduzzaman and District Superintendent of Police Arefin Jewell visited the area burnt due to conflict and arson in Dighinala around 11 am on Friday.
