US calls for full investigation into lives lost during protests

The United States has called for a full investigation into the lives lost during the protests in Bangladesh in recent months. 

During a press briefing on Monday (local time), State Department spokesman Matthew Miller also called for full accountability for anyone responsible. 

Miller made the remarks when asked about the US government's stand on whom to hold responsible for the killing of hundreds of people in Bangladesh from a human rights perspective. 

The spokesperson was also asked about comments on prominent journalists in Bangladesh being held in custody without bail. To this, Miller answered, "We want to see press freedoms upheld in Bangladesh and of course across the world."
