Lakshmi Puja today

Lakshmi Puja, a religious festival of the Hindu community, will be celebrated on Wednesday with due religious fervour and enthusiasm.

The Puja takes place on the first full moon night after the end of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the country's Hindu community.

This full-moon night is also called "Kojagori Purnima", and that is why this puja is also known as "Kojagori Lakshmi Puja".

According to Hindu scripture, Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth, development, light, fortune, fertility, benevolence, courage and beauty. Considering this aspect, Lakshmi is called as goddess of wealth.

The Hindus believe that Goddess Lakshmi arrives to receive worship on the night of Purnima to give the blessing of prosperity. In this belief, Bengali Hindus perform Lakshmi Puja in each of their houses.

Apart from this annual puja, Lakshmi Puja is also performed every Thursday in many families of Bengali Hindus.

Many Hindu women do fasting during Lakshmi Puja. In addition to the worship, footprints of Lakshmi will be painted in the courtyards of the houses. Lamps will be lit up in the evening. Various religious rituals are usually performed in Lakshmi Puja in a home environment.
