Former DNCC Mayor Atiqul sent to jail

A court on Thursday sent the former mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Mohammad Atiqul Islam to jail in connection with three murder cases filed with the capital's Mohammadpur Police Station. 

Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ali Haider's court gave the order on Thursday after police produced the former mayor before the court but did not plead to remand him.

Atiqul Islam was arrested in the capital on Wednesday. 

A team of Mohammadpur police arrested him from the Mohakhali DOHS area in the evening, said Deputy Commissioner (media) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Talebur Rahman.
