I do not have Sheikh Hasina's resignation letter: President

President Mohammed Shahabuddin has said, he heard that the former prime minister Sheikh Hasina had resigned, but he has no document proof of the matter. 

The president made the remark during a special interview given to Manabzamin newspaper's Chief Editor Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, which was published Saturday. 

According to Matiur Rahman Chowdhury, if the former PM really did submit a resignation letter, then someone should have a copy. However, he could not find a copy of the document despite searching for the last three weeks. Therefore, he asked the president as a last resort. 

When asked, the president said, "I have tried many times to collect the resignation letter, but failed. Maybe she did not have the time."

During the interview, the president said, a phone call was made from the PM's resident to Bangabhaban at around 10:30am on 5 August. The phone call said the PM will arrive at the Bangabhaban to meet the president. However, another phone call within an hour confirmed that the PM would not visit. 

He said, "At one point, I heard she left the country. She did not tell me anything before leaving."

He added, "When Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman came to Bangabhaban, I tried learning whether the PM resigned. Same answer. Heard she resigned. Perhaps did not have the time to inform."
