Deep depression now 650km away from Cox's Bazar

The deep depression over the East-central Bay of Bengal has moved West-Northwestwards and was centred 640kms West-Southwest of the Cox's Bazar port at midnight, the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has said. 

A special weather bulletin signed by Meteorologist Md Shahinul Islam confirmed the matter early on Wednesday. 

The deep depression is likely to move in the West-Northwesterly direction further and intensify into a cyclonic storm, the bulletin added. 

Maximum sustained wind speed within 48 km of the deep depression centre is about 50kph, rising to 60kph in gusts/squalls. The sea will remain rough near the deep depression centre. 

Maritime ports of Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been advised to keep hoisted the Distant Cautionary Signal no. One (R) One. 

All fishing boats and trawlers over North Bay and deep sea have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution till further notice, the bulletin adds.
