17 BNP men acquitted in subversion case

A Dhaka court has acquitted 17 leaders and activists of BNP including its Joint Secretary General Habib Un Nabi Khan Sohel in a subversion case filed with the capital's Paltan Police Station.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Sanaullah passed the judgment on Wednesday.

Earlier, the court wrapped up the hearing as no witnesses were turning up before the court to testify for long. 

According to the case documents, police filed the case against the BNP leaders and activists for setting a bus on fire in the Gulistan area on January 14, 2015. 

Paltan Police Station sub-inspector Raihanul Islam Saikat filed the case. 

On March 4 in 2016, police filed a charge sheet in the case. 

The court framed charges against the accused on November 13, 2019. 

Only one witness out of a total of 14, has testified in the case in the last four years.
