Gazette on EC search committee issued

The interim government has published the gazette of the six-member search committee to propose names of the persons fit for constituting the next Election Commission (EC).

Cabinet Secretary Dr Sheikh Abdur Rashid signed the gazette issued Thursday.

Headed by Judge of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court Justice Zubayer Rahman Chowdhury, the other members of the search committee are- Judge of the High Court Division Justice AKM Asaduzzaman, Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of Bangladesh Md Nurul Islam, Chairman of Bangladesh Public Service Commission Mobasser Momen, former teacher of the International Relations Department of Dhaka University Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar and former PSC chairman Prof. Zeenatun Nesa Tahmida Begum.

In accordance with Section 3 of the Election Commission Appointment Act-2022, the search committee will recommend the names of the individuals for appointment of the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) and other Election Commissioners.  

The Cabinet Division will give secretarial support to the search committee.
