Amir Hossain Amu arrested

Police have arrested Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and former lawmaker Amir Hossain Amu from the city's Dhanmondi area on Wednesday.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the arrest.

Amu served as the minister of industries of the then Awami League government during 2014–2019.

Amu, a former Jatiya Sangsad member from Jhalokati-2 constituency, was holding the position of coordinator and spokesman for the Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance.

DB official said several cases were filed against the veteran AL leader. 

Amu will be shown arrested in these cases and will be placed before the court, he added.
