Student movement to hold rally at Zero Point on Sunday

The Anti-discrimination Student Movement has called for a public rally at the Zero Point in Gulistan on Saturday demanding trial of the leaders of the ousted Awami League.

The programme was announced on the anti-discrimination student movement's Facebook page around 8:00pm on Saturday.

Earlier, Bangladesh Awami League, on its verified Facebook post, announced to organise a protest rally at Shaheed Noor Hossain Chattar at Zero Point at 3 pm on November 10 to demand 'removal of undemocratic forces and re-establishment of democratic system'.

Following the announcement of AL’s programme, Shafiqul Alam, press secretary to the chief adviser, in a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday said, "The Awami League in its current form is a fascist party. There is no way this fascist party will be allowed to hold protests in Bangladesh." 

"Anyone who would try to hold rallies, gatherings and processions by taking orders from the mass murderer and dictator Sheikh Hasina will face full force of the law enforcing agencies. The interim government won't tolerate any violence or any attempt to break the law and order situation in the country," the post further read.

Later on, Adviser to the interim government Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain said the law enforcers would take stern action if any organization linked to mass-killing tries to hold any political programme.

Shaheed Noor Hossain Day will be observed on Sunday.

Noor Hossain, a leader of Awami Jubo League, was killed on November 10 in 1987 in police firing while protesting against the then autocratic rule of Gen HM Ershad at the capital's Zero Point near Gulistan.
