Dr Sayedur, Sheikh Bashir, Farooki, Mahfuj Alam likely to be added to advisory council

Four more advisers - Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, businessman Sheikh Bashir Uddin, filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and special assistant to the chief adviser Mahfuj Alam - are likely to be added to the advisory council of the interim government of Bangladesh.

The new advisers are set to take oath at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at around 7pm on Sunday.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath.

Senior government officials and dignitaries will attend the oath taking ceremony, according to sources.

Dr Md Sayedur Rahman was appointed on August 27 as the vice-chancellor of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU).

Sheikh Bashir Uddin is the managing director of the country’s leading industrial conglomerate Akij-Bashir Group. He is the son of industrialist Sheikh Akij Uddin.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is a popular film director, producer and screenwriter. 

Mahfuj Alam was one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Students Movement. He currently holds the position of special assistant to the chief adviser.

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the face of the students' movement, on August 8, interim government was formed with Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser. 

So far, the number of members of the advisory council, including the chief adviser, is 21.
