Sheikh Bashir, Farooki, Mahfuj Alam added to advisory council

Businessman Sheikh Bashir Uddin, filmmaker Mostofa Sarwar Farooki and special assistant to the chief adviser Mahfuj Alam have been added to the advisory council of the interim government of Bangladesh.

The new advisers took oath at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban at around 7:30pm on Sunday.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath.

The chief adviser of the interim government Dr Muhammad Yunus was present at the swear-in ceremony.

Besides, senior government officials and dignitaries attended the oath taking ceremony, according to sources.

Sheikh Bashir Uddin is the managing director of the country’s leading industrial conglomerate Akij-Bashir Group. He is the son of industrialist Sheikh Akij Uddin.

Mostofa Sarwar Farooki is a popular film director, producer and screenwriter. 

Mahfuj Alam was one of the coordinators of the Anti-discrimination Students Movement. He was holding the position of special assistant to the chief adviser.

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the face of the students' movement, on August 8, interim government was formed with Dr. Muhammad Yunus as the chief adviser. 

With the latest counts, the number of members of the advisory council, including the chief adviser, is now 24.
