Gas stove blast burns 5 in Dhaka

An explosion from a gas stove burned five people, including women, in the capital's Kafrul area on Sunday night. 

The injured were identified as Rajib Mia, 21, Sumi Akhtar, 18, Shahana Akhtar, 22, Sumon Mia, 25, and Suborna Akhtar, 22. They are all Ready Made Garments (RMG) workers. 

According to an eyewitness, the injured were all tenants on the second floor of a house in Kafrul. They replaced the gas cylinder in their stove on Sunday night. The blast occurred when they tried to light the stove. Neighbours doused the fire and rushed them to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery at around 11:30pm. 

The institute's Resident Doctor Toriqul Islam said Rajib sustained 6 per cent burns, Sumi 2 per cent, Shahana 5 per cent, Sumon 3 per cent, and Suborna 5 per cent. They are now kept under observation but are all out of danger.
