BB allows import of 11 commodities on deferred payment

Bangladesh Bank (BB) has allowed the import of 11 essential commodities on up to 90 days credit to ensure their smooth supply and reasonable prices during the next Ramadan. 

A BB circular was issued on Monday to this end.

"In order to maintain the price at reasonable level and smooth supply of necessary food items during the holy month of Ramadan, it has been decided to allow import of rice, wheat, onion, pulse, edible oil, sugar, egg, chickpea, pea, spices and dates on usance terms on up to 90 days under supplier's/buyer's credit," reads the circular.

The BB said the benefit will remain valid until March 31 next year.
