Former lawmakers Dhirendra Debnath, Sirajul Islam arrested

Police have arrested former Awami League lawmaker Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu from Barguna-1 in the city's Uttara area on Monday night.

Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of Detective Branch (DB) of Police, said Shambhu was rounded up at 9:00pm.

A number of murder cases were filed after the fall of AL government on August 5 last in face of the student-people movement, he added.

Shambhu would be produced before the court on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, former Member of Parliament of Narsingdi-3 Constituency Sirajul Islam Molla alias Dollar Siraj has been arrested by joint forces.

Mohammadpur Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Hafizur Rahman said he was arrested on Monday evening from People's University in Asadgate area of the capital.

There are several cases against him including a murder case of Narayanganj's Fatulla during the anti-discrimination movement. He will be produced before the court on Tuesday.
