Amir Hossain Amu sent to jail

A court has ordered to send Awami League (AL) Advisory Council Member and former lawmaker Amir Hossain Amu to jail after a 6-day remand in a case lodged over the murder of a businessman in Dhaka during the anti-discrimination movement. 

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sharifur Rahman scraped a bail plea and sent Amu to jail on Tuesday as the former lawmaker was produced before the court. 

Amu was arrested from Dhaka's Dhanmondi area on Wednesday (6 November), Muhammad Talebur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Media and Public Relations of the Detective Branch (DB) of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed.

Amu, a former Jatiya Sangsad member from the Jhalokati-2 constituency, also served as the minister of industries of the then Awami League government from 2014 to 2019.

He was holding the position of coordinator and spokesman for the Awami League-led 14-party grand alliance.
