Top rice trader Rashid arrested in fraud case

Country's leading rice trader Abdur Rashid was arrested on Saturday afternoon in cases of fraudulence, including non-delivery of goods after taking money, check forgery.

Abdur Rashid is the President of Central Committee of Chalkal Malik Samiti and leader of Rashid Agro Food.

Kushtia Model Police Station OC Sihabur Rahman Sihab said there are many cases and warrants in the name of rice trader Abdur Rashid. Of them, he was arrested in the check fraud case of agricultural entrepreneur Atiqur Rahman of Rajshahi's Puthia police station.

Abdur Rashid did not appear even though the court issued summon in that case. Later, the court issued an arrest warrant against him. 

According to police sources, there are at least 110 cases against Abdur Rashid across the country. Although there are many warrants in his name in various cases, he was out of touch because he was close to Sadhan Chandra Majumdar, the former food minister, during the Awami League period. However, Rashid also took bail in some cases.
