DU lifts ban on academic ties with Pakistan

The University of Dhaka (DU) authority severed all academic ties with Pakistan in an emergency syndicate meeting in 2015. At a recent syndicate meeting, the ban on ties with Pakistan was lifted. 

As a result of the ban lifting, Pakistani students can study in DU, and Bangladeshi students can travel to Pakistan for higher education. Moreover, DU can collaborate with Pakistan in matters related to education and culture. 

A number of sources confirmed the matter to the Daily Samakal on Monday. 

When asked, Pro-VC Saima Haque told the Daily Samakal that as the DU is an academic organisation, many want to avail scholarships or attend conferences. From that point of view, the decision was taken to normalise the relationship.
