Former food minister Qamrul Islam remanded

A court has placed former food minister Advocate Qamrul Islam on an eight-day remand in an attempt to murder case lodged with the capital's New Market Police Station on 19 July. 

Police produced Qamrul Islam in front of the court on Tuesday morning and pleaded to place him on a 10-day remand. After the hearing, Dhaka additional chief metropolitan magistrate Jiadur Rahman placed him on an eight-day remand. 

Qamrul Islam was arrested from the capital's Uttara area on Monday night.
