Clash at Mollah College: 3 students allegedly killed

Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College authority has claimed that three students died after clash with students of the Kabi Nazrul College and Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College in Old Dhaka on Monday (25 November). 

More than a hundred students were injured in the clash, claimed a press release signed by the college's managing director, issued on Monday afternoon. 

Mollah College authority has also called for the government's intervention to bring justice regarding the vandalism and looting in the college.

After several rounds of clashes between the students, eight students were found to be heavily injured and were brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH). They were identified as, Md Hasinur Rahman, 22, Md Rajib, 19, Anupam Das, 20, Md Noman, 20, Md Shahidul Islam, 21, Md Faruk, 21, Md Rana, 20, and Md Arafat, 20. 

Confirming the matter, DMCH Police Camp in-charge Inspector Md Faruk said most of the students admitted to the hospital sustained injuries to their heads. 

Earlier in the morning, students of the two colleges started a long march towards the Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College at around 10am, calling it "Mega Monday." The students looted and vandalised the Mollah College. 

Members of the Army, RAB, and Police arrived three hours after the clash. However, they were faced with resistance from the students. 

On November 21, a Mollah College student named Avijit died while receiving treatment at the Dhaka National Medical College Hospital. Alleging negligence. They later staged a demonstration over the death, on which students of Suhrawardy and Kabi Nazrul colleges allegedly attacked. 

On Sunday, students from over a dozen colleges attacked Suhrawardy College in what they said was a retaliatory move. They vandalised at least six vehicles at Suhrawardy College and tried to attack Kabi Nazrul Government College but failed to enter the campus. 

Later the same day, Students of Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College announced an indefinite closure of the institution, demanding the immediate identification and exemplary punishment of those involved in an attack on the college.

They also threatened to disaffiliate Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College if their demands were not met.
